Stitching hexagons together

If you are here for the GROW YOUR BLOG Event and Giveaway go here to enter my draw for a hardcover needle book. I'll announce the winner in my post on Friday, February 15, 2014.  And I'll also be posting Part 4 of my Soupcon Quilt Along (QAL). I'm very excited to see what you think!

Clare asked me if I would demonstrate how I sew my hexagons together. I'm always happy to share what I do and how I do it. Now that I've figured out how to shoot video with my camera (very technical stuff - I had to press the red button) I'm all set to do more demonstrations. So here's a little video of how I stitch my hexagons together! I'll post another video in a couple of days to show you how I set a hexagon in a corner so do come back!

If you are wondering what I'm going to do with those two hexagons I stitched together in the video here's a sneak peak!

I'm working on month two of The Hexie Blog QAL and this is the February installment. The first month was a snowflake and I liked the blue so much I think I will use blues to make all of my blocks. The center of the heart is supposed to be completely filled in with hexagons but I wanted something open and airy because the snowflake had some opens spaces. I'm going to add something to my heart but I'm not sure what although I'm mulling over a few ideas! I'll be sure to post a picture when it is finished!

So until I post again, happy sewing!

  4. Thanks! I like the idea of putting the knot further end. I'll give that a try.

    1. I find it really makes a big different when stitching larger units together so do give it a go!

  5. So nice, your heart. I thought about keeping the hexies in blue, as I started the first block. Now I'm doing it red and pink instead. But you got me thinking of making one blue too. Then I have to make another snowflake in red and pink. And soon I will have two different projects going on. Hm, I have to think about it again....
